Meet the Client

Touching with Accurate Empathy and Compassionate Presence

A common misunderstanding of bodywork in general, and SI in particular, is that the practitioner is doing something to the client in a one-way relationship. In our view, to truly "meet the client" demands the practitioner move and respond within a dynamic relationship with the client. As we open to the fullness of our own experience, we become available to see the fullness of our client's experience as well. We can then respond to the specific needs of our client, as opposed to projecting our ideas of balance, verticality, or any other concept onto him or her.

Perceiving the energetic flow and following it are keys to meeting the client. No matter what the client might say about their body, or what we might think needs to happen in the session, only by following the energy are we able to give the client exactly the session they need. Following the energy is how we meet the client with accurate empathy. When we can perceive the specificity of our client’s challenge, they feel met. This is where the work begins.

At CCSI, we've developed a specific training or approach, called Meet the Client, that develops in practitioners a full awareness of this dynamic relationship and its impact upon the success of the work.
